Reddit is convinced that it’s like terminator vision with a built in aimbot. The crazy glasses are literally just covering one eye and looking through a pinhole with the other. You can improvise the „android tech gear“ with some tape on your glasses.
It’s so inconsequential that there are world class shooters who do not use a diopter or blinder – like this Turkish guy – and world class shooters who use them, like the Korean woman. 100% personal preference. That’s why it’s allowed, because why not? All shooters are free to correct/cover their vision however they like, they are still shooting iron sights. Trust me, the guys not using these are not doing so out of inexperience, cost, or a sense of righteousness. They’re doing it because they tried it and found they score better without. I shoot air pistol and NRA Bullseye locally and I have not found the diopter or blinder to be helpful to me, so I don’t find it more or less impressive when somebody else uses them.
It’s also quite common for somebody, especially an older shooter (because our eyes become more farsighted with age) to wear glasses with a different prescription for shooting. Kind of like reading glasses but while reading glasses are set to let a presbyopic person focus at around ~13", shooting glasses would be prescribed for comfortable focus at the distance to the front sight post, usually around ~25-30" depending on the person’s arm length and pistol.
That would likely include the guy pictured here. You would never know they are using „shooting glasses“ because it’s just a different prescription in regular frames. Is that cheating? Should you have to shoot with uncorrected vision, or with the prescription you’d use for driving a car (i.e. distance vision)?
