Aaron Aites und Audrey Ewell gelingt mit UNTIL THE LIGHT TAKES US ein ebenso intimer wie verstörender Einblick in die Szene, der weder glorifiziert noch verurteilt. American Hardcore
Genre: Hardcore Punk

Generally unheralded at the time, the early 1980s hardcore punk rock scene gave birth to much of the rock music and culture that followed. There would be no Nirvana, Beastie Boys or Red Hot Chili Peppers were it not for hardcore pioneers such as Black Flag, Bad Brains and Minor Threat. Hardcore was more than music—it was a social movement created by Reagan-era misfit kids. The participants constituted a tribe unto themselves—some finding a voice, others an escape in the hard-edged music. And while some sought a better world, others were just angry and wanted to raise hell. AMERICAN HARDCORE traces this lost subculture, from its early roots in 1980 to its extinction in 1986.

Metal Machine Music: Nine Inch Nails and the Industrial Uprising
Genre: Industrial, Industrial Rock/Metal

Providing inspiration for the title of this DVD. Lou Reed’s 5th solo album split opinion dramatically upon its release in 1975, but while many saw it as a contractual obligation designed to shock the listener, its long term influence has been nothing short of startling.
The likes of Genesis P-Orridge and Throbbing Gristle in London, Cabaret Voltaire in Sheffield however, were concurrently performing a UK brand of what would soon be termed “industrial,” and these seeds collectively not only assisted and influenced the rapid rise of that period’s Punk assault, they also moved electronic music into a new era. A new era that would run its own course and influence greatly an American drift in the mid-1980s towards a home-grown, danceable variety of electro-industrial rock, with the remarkable Nine Inch Nails at its heart and soul.
This film traces the fascinating history of industrial rock, via its 1970s origins, through its enormous rise to prominence in America in the late 1980s and throughout the 1990s, with NIN as the focal point, to culminate with the current activities of Trent Reznor as he uses marketing and promotional initiatives in a manner just as creative as the music he continues to compose.

Cobain - Montage of Heck

Marley

:colinmcrage:

Frank Zappa
Genre: Blues, Progressive Rock, Jazz, Classical

Of all the qualities that typified Frank Zappa, perhaps the most striking is that he was a paradox. A workaholic perfectionist rock star who eschewed the hippie culture of the 1960s, deploring its conformism, spurious ideals and drug use, Zappa was not only a brilliant rock guitarist but an orchestral composer, innovative filmmaker, music producer, businessman, iconoclast and perceptive political and social commentator. His oeuvre continually amazes: over 60 albums of music from rock to orchestral, in addition to innumerable films, concerts and other accomplishments.

Gibt ne ziemlich geile Doku über Iggie & The Stooges:
